December 12 – Dreamgirls
Adapted from late director Michael Bennett’s Tony award
winning Broadway musical, Dreamgirls is the story of a promising soul singing trio called
the Dreamettes. Set in the 1960s, The Dreamettes leave behind their homes in the Detroit projects in
hopes of finding success in New York City. After competeing at the infamous Apollo Theatre, the
girls are scouted by an ambitious young music manager and are soon swept up in a whirlwind mixed
with success and selling out. With a dream cast including Beyonce Knowles, Jamie Foxx, and Eddie
Murphy, there is no way you won’t be bopping in your seat.

December 20 – The Painted Veil
The Painted Veil is a remake from the original featuring the
great Greta Garbo in 1934. Directed by John Curran, the film stars Naomi Watts (Kitty) and
Edward Norton (Walter) in the 1920s as a couple whose marriage runs dry in Shanghai. With
Walter, Kitty just isn’t feelin’ it, so she cheats on him. Naturally, his response
is to relocate the both of them to an epidemic-ridden village in China. There they make all
sorts of newfound discoveries about themselves and their once broken union. It’s like a
rocky, romantic, Chinese boat ride that you can’t afford to miss!

to be better than someone we feel is better than ourselves...the only problem is when it comes in
the way of the friendship (or sisterhood). There is a way to strive to do your best, and then also
support the other in the process.” knorl05, I have a bone to pick with you...
